UCAS is to inroduce a new university admissions scheme, to make it easier to give lower A-level offers to pupils from poor-performing schools. In order to charge the higher tuition fees of up to £9000 pa in 2012, universities are being forced by the government to admit greater proportions of pupils from deprived backgrounds. The change in the UCAS admissions scheme is to help universities achieve this and is at the request of university vice-chancellors.
