The rapid rise in the cost of English universities is apparently doubling the number of independent school students applying to American and European universities. For the less well-heeled, Ivy League universities such as Harvard and Yale, provide such generous bursaries that they may actually be cheaper than English universities. Doubts about the quality of teaching and the amount of classroom teaching hours compared with America and Europe are also contributing to this trend.
