If you are homosexual or bisexual – and it is estimated 5–10% of the population are – then a university provides a better-than-average environment to come to terms with your own sexuality.

Most universities have lively LGBS (lesbian, gay and bisexual societies), which are often active socially and maybe politically. If you face any discrimination, contact the Campaign for Homosexual Equality (www.c-h-e.org.uk).
